Our mission is to build the concept of health in every individual through intuitive innovation.
Occam's Razor
"The principles of parsimonious, first derived from scholar William of Ockham, that posits that the explanation or method with the least assumptions is usually the most likely answer."
Why Occam Health?
"Occam Health is built on the foundations of distributive justice. Our ethics and moral code govern that everyone should be given an equal opportunity to benefit from healthcare to maximise ones’ potential and freedom. We created Occam Health to realise this vision."
How does Occam Triage help achieve our mission?
"We built Occam Triage as a free point-of-care triage tool available to everyone from anywhere at any time. As soon as one feels unwell, one can get their health assessed and reported in clinically accurate language instantly. Occam Triage helps one understand their health needs, make informed decision about when to seek further care and gain control over their health. Over time, it forms the cornerstone of the concept of health."
Our Story
"Re-imagine the development (of health) as a process of expanding the real freedoms that people enjoy" - Amartya Sen
It started with the belief that health, more than just a human right, is the foundation of social and economic development. To offer everyone a fulfilled experience of life is to offer 'health for all', a seemingly impossible goal set by Dr Halfdan Mahler in the Alma-Ata Declaration of 1978. We founded Occam Health with the aspiration to provide a level playing field for every individual by attaining 'health for all'.
To be clear, health is defined not merely the absence of disease but rather a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being. We believe the first step is to build the concept of health in every community through intuitive innovation. Our innovation aims to materialise the concept of health into day-to-day tools that solve practical problems, naturally converting the availability of care into a state of well-being over time. We are committed to develop simple, equitable and adaptable solutions readily deployable in resource poor settings.
Allow us to elaborate on our three core values. First, simplicity is guided by the principle of Occam’s Razor, where the solution with the least assumption is often attributed as the most likely answer to a problem. We believe that by building perspectives, we can see through great complexity and find beyond, greater simplicity. Second, distributive justice is unnegotiable. Our creation will only serve to promote and not restrict the access to health. Third, every solution is designed around the local contours of health burden, the centrality of ethnography and the resource climate as we prioritise value-based horizontal approach over isolated vertical interventions. Every solution is designed with the flexibility to leverage share delivery infrastructure to construct a care delivery value chain. Together, these values form our guiding principles to seek the answer for ‘health for all’.
As a doctor, I have an ethical duty to uphold justice in health while I care for every patient as an individual. In the constant struggle to honour these seemingly contradictory solemn promises, Occam Health is born.
